The Basic Science Research Institute was established to carry out the qualitative improvement of basic science research and interdisciplinary studies in 1985. The Institute plays a role as the hub institute for the field of basic science in the Chungcheong and Daejeon regions. To cover the entire fields of basic science, the institute has affiliated divisions such as Division of Mathematics Research, Division of Statistics Research, Division of Computer Science Research, Division of Chemistry Research, Division of Physics Research, Division of Life Science Research and Division of Earth Science Research. The Institute publishes collections of papers of natural science once per year as well as other a lot of academic journals. The Institute actively contributes to the promotion of basic science research by holding various academic conferences and symposia over the entire fields of basic science. The Institute has been funded largely by the Korea Research Foundation (KRF) and Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), including other many institutions. In addition, the Institute has been funded by the Ministry of Education increasingly and largely since 1986.
